| Description |
Español: Para los Koguis así como diversas culturas mesoamericanas prehispánicas los jaguares representaban a los dioses, los mamas guías culturales cumplían rituales en los cuales entraban en estados de trance con el fin de transfigurarse en jaguares, esto les permitía obtener características de este felino y adquirir una visión integral sobre los bosques. Una de estas características, es que parece relacionarse con la cualidad de superdepredador, el cual actúa como regulador de las especies que depreda. Como consecuencia de ello, recibe la denominación de especie clave, entre sus presas cuentan tortugas, caimanes, dantas, anacondas entre muchas otras. No obstante, en la actualidad este felino corre peligros inminentes frente a la caza y el alto nivel de deforestación que presenta el hábitat. |
