Nederlands: Deze achttiende-eeuwse, metalen papierverbrander werd gebruikt om in het openbaar pamfletten te verbranden die door de autoriteiten verboden waren. Hoewel auteurs en boekdrukkers in de zeventiende en achttiende eeuw relatief veel vrijheid hadden, bestond er zeker niet zoiets als vrijheid van meningsuiting in de Republiek der Verenigde Nederlanden. Het aanzetten tot oproer, het belasteren van machthebbers, de kerk of buitenlandse vorsten en het verspreiden van ketterij en pornografie, dat alles was verboden. Er stonden zware straffen op overtreding, maar een effectief censuurbeleid was door de ingewikkelde machtsstructuur van de Republiek in de praktijk niet mogelijk. Als een auteur, boekverkoper of drukker van een verboden boek of pamflet wél werd gepakt, kon hij worden verbannen, opgesloten of zelfs gegeseld. En soms werden de verboden publicaties dus publiekelijk verbrand.
