Italiano: La parabola può essere definita in generale come luogo dei centri delle coniche omotetiche tangenti ad una retta r e passante per un punto R, dove r e R sono rispettivamente la direttrice e il fuoco della parabola.
Inoltre, la parabola può essere considerata come luogo dei centri delle coniche omotetiche tangenti ad una retta r ed una conica qualsiasi Δ di centro R. Entrambe le definizioni sono valide e offrono prospettive diverse per comprendere la natura geometrica della parabola. Per cui, partendo da una circonferenza Φ e una retta r', e determinando le circonferenze ad esse tangenti, si ha che il centro di Φ è il fuoco.
