Patrick Etheridge of the US Lifesaving Service, about 1885.

  • Original caption: "
    Patrick H. Etheridge, was keeper of Creed's Hill Station and later Cape Hatteras Station. In 1884 he assisted the keeper and crew of the Cape Hatteras Station in the rescue of the crew of the barkentine Ephraim Williams in dangerously high seas. Etheridge was filling in for a surfman who was absent from duty. Etheridge and the Cape Hatteras crew were awarded the Gold Life-saving Medal of Honor. H.H. Brimley Collection, circa 1895.
