Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1874, this Gothic Revival-style church houses the congregation of Perryville Baptist Church. The church was modified from its original, simpler design to feature a newer wing and corner tower sometime in the early 20th Century. The red brick church features a front gable roof, gable parapets, lancet stained glass windows, a datestone above the center bay, a protruding bay window a the central bay, which was the original front entrance to the church, buttresses, brick corbeling, pinnacles, and a rough-hewn stone base. The addition to the south, added in the early 20th Century, features a different brick color, and added a corner bell tower with a crenellated parapet, doorway with a gothic arched transom, limestone trim, buttresses, and classrooms along the west side of the building with double-hung one-over-one windows. The building was further expanded to the rear in the mid-20th Century, and to the rear and east more recently. The original church and its first addition are a contributing structure in the Perryville Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The additions since are all noncontributing structures in the historic district.
