| Description | Identification is a pain in the ... These butterflies were very small. They could be wood whites or small whites. They looked so small, that would make wood whites more likely but small whites are much more common and two of the photographs show yellow underwings which makes it rather likely that they are small whites. They could also belong to different kinds of Pieridae as there were lots of these small butterflies at the edge of the fields. -pulls hair out- I guess it's more likely that they are small whites, pieris rapae, since the major rule to identification is: it's always the most common species. |
