Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_71632_DSC08302.JPG Notes: תֵּל אֲפֵק הוא אתר ארכאולוגי השוכן סמוך למקורות נחל הירקון ן ובתחומי הגן הלאומי ירקון שנקרא גם quotפארק אפקquot על שם אתר זה. האתר היה מיושב למן התקופה הכלקוליתית בארץ ישראל ברציפות כ-5000 שנה. בשטח התל עומד מבצר תל אפק. חשיבותו האסטרטגית של התל היא מיקומו ממערב למעבר אפק � פרוזדור צר העובר בין הרי השומרון במזרח וביצות הירקון במערב. המעבר הוא חלק מדרך הים הקדומה שחיברה בין מצרים ובין מסופוטמיה. ובשל קרבתו אל מעיינות ראש העין מקור המים השני בגודלו בארץ שטחו כ-120 דונם.ויקיפדיה
