[edit]DescriptionPilgrims Cross Memorial stone being carried through Holcombe village 1902 (2).jpg |
A 2004 scan of a 1902 photograph of a 6-ton Millstone Grit memorial stone, in 2 pieces, being transported through Holcombe village, Greater Manchester, England, in 1902. It was to be dragged up Holcombe Hill by 14 horses that day, to be installed in place of an ancient wayside cross known as "Pilgrim's Cross, Holcombe Moor", which had been destroyed or lost by 1901. The 2004 scan of the original is in the possession of Ramsbottom Heritage Society, with the following caption: "Pilgrims Cross (replacement) being taken from Fletcher Bank Quarry 24.5.1902, by Higher House, Moor Road, Holcombe". The original print is in Bury Archive.
