[edit]
Description
English: Brazilian pine trees (Araucaria angustifolia, also known as Pinheiro do paraná) in the Buri municipality of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. This species is considered "Critically Endangered", as assigned by the IUCN for wild species. Endemic only to southern brazilian states São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do sul, these trees probably originated in an area that now comprises roughly a third of the area of nowadays state of Paraná. The tree can also be found to a lesser extent in relatively low mountain ranges (500–1800 meters) in northeastern Argentina and Paraguay.
