Summary
[edit]DescriptionPo and Adige rivers pour sediments into the Adriatic Sea after widespread floods in Italy (Copernicus).jpg |
English: Torrential rain affected Italy in the past few days, causing severe flooding and widespread destruction. The increased surface runoff (i.e., the flow of water over the ground surface) has eroded soils and carried sediments into rivers, which have been washed down all the way to the Adriatic Sea. The massive amount of sediment poured in the Mediterranean Sea by the Angie and Po rivers is clearly visible in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 4 November. The Copernicus Sentinel satellites provide valuable data to identify and delineate the extent of areas affected by floods and to monitor the consequences of such disastrous events. |
