English: Political cartoon that appeared in Frank Leslie’s Illustrated news on March 1st, 1884. It depicts German chancellor Otto von Bismark and a U.S. hog passing by on the street, reading, “we never speak as we pass by.” It was meant to illustrate the events of the Pork War, a ban by Germany of U.S. pork due to German protectionism.
