Watercolour and bodycolour on ivory;

signed lower right with the artist's monogram, later gilt-metal frame

Provenance - Heirlooms / Fettercairn Estate, 1946, ‘no. 5. George Forbes 1807’

The sitter was the son of Sir William Forbes, 6th Bt. His elder brother, William, inherited the baronetcy upon their father's death in 1806. In 1819, George married Mary, daughter of Sir John Hay of Smithfield and couple had two children.
