Description Portrait of Captain Howell A. Doc Rayburn (1841?-1865?), 12th Texas Cavalry Regiment and Independent Guerrilla Command, Confederate States Army. Rayburn joined the Confederate army 1861 but departed due to illness. In 1863, after a long recovery, he formed a guerrilla band to attack Union scouting and foraging parties, gaining the nickname Bandit or Banditti. Note: Recto: [handwritten in ink] Capt Reyborne [sic], C.S.A. Banditti. Verso: [handwritten in ink] Capt Reyborne [sic] C.S.A.
