Hand-coloured carte de visite. Studio of S. Anderson, photographer, New Orleans, United States. Bought from an eBay seller in Senonches, France. The pioneering photographer Samuel Anderson (born c.1825), "daguerreotypist, ambrotypist, photographer, daguerreian, and photographic supplier", was active in New Orleans in 1848 and 1856 to c.1884. See Peter E. Palmquist and Thomas R. Kailbourn's book <a href="https://books.google.com.au/books?id=UNipzykMBEIC&lpg=PA74&ots=UWKPA6rzuI&dq=S. Anderson New Orleans photographer&pg=PA74#v=onepage&q=S. Anderson New Orleans photographer&f=false" rel="nofollow">Pioneer Photographers from the Mississippi to the Continental Divide</a>. In the 1850s he was noted for his Daguerrean car, "a large and commodious room mounted on wheels ... designed to transport his apparatus to most of the towns and cities of the interior". |
