[edit]DescriptionPortwood-Trousdale-Camp Run-Huron Members of the New Albany Shale (Middle-Upper Devonian; Emmanuel Baptist Church roadcut, Estill County, Kentucky, USA) 2.jpg |
English: Weathered shales in the Devonian of Kentucky, USA.
This roadcut consists several members of the Middle to Upper Devonian New Albany Shale (also referred to in this area as the Ohio Shale or the Chattanooga Shale). The rocks are principally offshore marine black shales; other fine-grained lithologies also occur. Black shale deposition was common during the Late Devonian's Global Anoxia Event. Stratigraphy: Huron / Clegg Creek Member over Camp Run Member over Trousdale / Blocher Member over Portwood Member, New Albany Shale / Ohio Shale / Chattanooga Shale, Givetian to Famennian Stages, upper Middle Devonian to upper Upper Devonian Locality: roadcut on the northern side of Route 52, across the road from Emmanuel Baptist Church (now Grayson Funeral Home), ~3.5 miles east of Estill County line, ~6 miles west of Irvine, western Estill County, east-central Kentucky, USA (37˚ 42’ 11.12" North latitude, 84˚ 02’ 01.25" West longitude) Info. at: Schieber, J. & R.
