Description Pretty plain-jane interiors of Japan's first Shinkansen bullet train. I have in fact traveled here to Kyoto from Tokyo by Shinkansen and I was amazed how puny the seats of the original Shinkansen look, as seen here. A picture of the business end of this Shinkansen train appeared just before this. (see previous picture). This is of series 0- the first Shinkansen trains to appear in Japan. With a maximum speed of 220 kmph, (a good 100 kmph slower than today's Shinkansens), this series was put on line in 1964 and withdrawn in 2008. The modern Shinkansens of today retain the same 3 - 2 seat layout as seen here though. (Kyoto, Japan, Apr/ May 2019)
