Français : S.M. BAO DAI. SEJOURS FRANÇAIS ET RETOUR A HUE :

1922 A 1934. TROISIEME ALBUM.

Un album à soufflet à l'italienne (Dim. environ 23x31 cm) provenant des archives photographiques de Monsieur Eugène Charles (1865-1946). Environ 115 photographies inédites de formats divers classées chronologiquement de 1922 à 1934.

1922, visite officielle de S.M. Khai Dinh en France, accompagné par son fils. Nombreuses images des séjours français du jeune prince Vinh Thuy (Devenu Bao Dai en 1926) et son cousin, le prince Vinh Can, entourés par les enfants Charles. Paris, Vichy, les Alpes, Prada de Conflent, Cannes, Marrakech, Rabat, Gibraltar, Egypte, Le retour à Hué, Dalat... Le jeune Empereur se passionne alors pour le golf, le tennis, les belles automobiles, l'équitation et les jolies femmes.

A la fin de cet album, on remarquera la présence de 7 clichés datés de fin 1933 : deux images de Jeanne Marie-Thérèse Nguyen (la future impératrice Nam Phuong), photographiée par Monsieur Charles, ainsi que 5 images d'une réception dans une villa luxueuse de Dalat, celle de Pierre Nguyen (le père de Nam Phuong). Il s'agit de la présentation officielle de la future impératrice à la famille royale avant les célébrations du mariage de 1934 (voir la fin du catalogue). On reconnaît parmi les personnalités présentes : Tu Cung (la reine mère) et la délégation royale, M. et Mme Graffeuil, M. et Mme Pierre Nguyen (les parents), M. Darlène (le maire de Dalat). Il semblerait que ce soient les seules images connues de cet événement. L'ensemble est légendé partiellement et en bon état.
English: An Amazing Photograph from the imperial archives of Monsieur Charles, former resident of, former governor of indochina and especially tutor of his majesty bao dai when he was studying in France. This Group Photograph, at the entrance of the indo-Chinese Mutual Association, dates back to 1922, in front of Prince Vinh Thuy with his hat. He will take his name from bao dai (keeper of greatness) in 1926.
