Noradrenalina posiada zarówno wstępujące, jak i zstępujące projekcje. Projekcje wstępujące rozpoczynają się przede wszystkim w miejscu sinawym w pniu mózgu; rozchodzą się do wielu obszarów mózgu [...] i regulują nastrój, wzbudzenie, funkcje poznawcze i inne. Zstępujące projekcje noradrenaliny rozchodzą się w dół do rdzenia kręgowego i regulują szlaki przewodzenia bólu.
