Summary[edit]
DescriptionProvince House, Halifax (3609681508).jpg |
Province House is the seat of Nova Scotia's government. Initially home to both houses of the legislature, the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, and some executive offices, Province House today houses only the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Library (the Supreme Court received its own offices in 1862 and the Legislative Council, the upper house of the provincial parliament, was abolished in 1928). Construction on Province House began in 1811, following a Palladian style design by Richard Scott. It was completed in 1819 at a total cost of £52,000. Province House was also the site in 1851 of the Nova Scotian Industrial Exhibition. |
