Susceptibility of P.aeruginosa to antibiotics. Pigment production.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: P.aeruginosa possesses intrinsic resistance to many antibiotic classes and has the ability to develop resistance by mutations or by horizontal acqusition of resistance genes carried on plasmids, transposons, or integrons (F). All strains of P.aeruginosa are resistant to sulfonamides (SXT, Co-trimoxazole). Relatively small group of antibiotics (antipseudomonal antibiotics) overcome the intrinsic resistance of P.aeuruginosa and are active against this organism. These include tobramycin (TOB), amikacin (AKN),flurochinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin, CIP), ceftazidime (CZD), piperacillin/tazobactam (PTZ) and meropenem (MEM).
