| Description |
English: Suppression and Incident activity on the Delta Fire, burning north of Redding, CA along I-5.
Nathan Barbour, a Firefighter from CALFIRE station Lassen-Modoc, engages in mop up operations along containment lines above Sims Camp east of Interstate 5. Seeking out lingering hot spots and embers, the crews turn the soil and apply water from long stretches of hose. Once complete the process creates an area devoid of accessible fuel that a fire could utilize to spread. During this process of "creating black" USFS Hotshots carefully initiated firing operations to consume fuel inside the containment area. These are conducted when conditions are most favorable for fire to consume the fuel but in a way that limits the intensity of that fire. Crews from CALFIRE guarded these containment lines during this process to ensure fire stayed within the perimeter. Crews are working night and day shifts to effect suppression along the fire which earlier closed Interstate 5 in Northern California.
