DescriptionPyxis amorgos 1889.png |
Cycladic Pyxis in the shape of a hut, with a pattern of interwoven spirals, early bronze age II. Made from steatite, height 9.4 cm. The pxyis is konical on four feet with a cover shaped like a roof. Cover and jar share eyelets that allowed the jar to be sealed. The surface is blue-grey, very good quality, with two small defects at the cover, one at the jar. Both jar and cover are decorated with an extremely well done motive of interwoven spirals. The base of the cover shows a row of Chip carving shapes. The object is now at the Antikensammlung Berlin, Germany Description follows Jürgen Thimme (Ed.): Kunst und Kultur der Kykladeninseln im 3. Jahrtausend vor Christus. C. F. Müller publishers 1976, ISBN 3-7880-9568-7, p. 516. |
