Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Quincy Mine, a copper mine nicknamed “Old Reliable”, operated from 1846-1945 in Hancock MI. Today, what is left of its ruins and grounds are part of the Keweenaw National Historic Park. The grounds are open to visitors and guided tours are offered certain times of the year. This is a photo of the mine's #2 Shaft-rockhouse. Built in 1908, it was the largest, of its kind, in the world and held that status for the length of its career. It extends 9,260 ft along the angle and reaches 6,225 ft into the belly of the earth. It had a lift that brought miners in and out of the mine. The reason it is called the Shaft-rockhouse is because it crushed the rock inside the building, right after it had been hauled up from below.

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 70000271.
