Description
Deutsch: Ein Quintofen ist ähnlich wie ein Pottofen ein meist ziemlich kleiner runder Ofen ohne Ausmauerung mit flachem Abschluss mit Sockel oder Füßen. Der Name kommt von der Hütte in Quint (heute ein Stadtteil von Trier), die ihn erstmalig hergestellt hat. Quintöfen besitzen zudem eine flache Haube mit zwei Griffen, die wie eine umgedrehte Schüssel den Ofen bedeckt. Die Schüssel konnte bei Bedarf umgedreht und zum Erwärmen von Wasser verwendet werden. Ob unser Ofen in Quint hergestellt wurde liegt zwar nahe, läßt sich im Moment aber noch nicht sicher sagen. Unser Ofen ist ein so genannter Hinterlader, d.h. er wurde vom Nebenraum (oder Flur) aus befeuert.
