A coleção Brito Alves é composta de 1 252 rótulos de cigarros na técnica litográfica. Foi iniciada pelo comerciante Vicente de Brito Alves e continuada pelo seu filho, o advogado pernambucano José de Brito Alves (1887-1963). Em 1964 a coleção foi doada pela família ao então Instituto Joaquim Nabuco de Pesquisas Sociais. Constitui-se em um raro e valioso patrimônio cultural e artístico, registrando fatos históricos, usos, costumes e aspectos da vida cultural da sociedade brasileira e particularmente da pernambucana, no final do século XIX até as primeiras décadas do século XX.
