Description
English: NUI DAT, SOUTH VIETNAM. 1969-06. A RAAF CARIBOU AIRCRAFT TURNS AROUND AFTER LANDING AT LUSCOMBE AIRFIELD, 1ST AUSTRALIAN TASK FORCE (1ATF). THE AIRSTRIP IS NAMED AFTER LIEUTENANT BRYAN TAYLOR LUSCOMBE, THE FIRST ARMY PILOT KILLED IN THE KOREAN WAR. WORK ON THE AIRSTRIP WAS STARTED SOON AFTER THE AUSTRALIANS ARRIVED AT NUI DAT IN 1966-06, SINCE THEN SEVERAL EXTENSIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO IT. NOTE THE SIGN FOR THE AIRFIELD AND COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUES IN THE FOREGROUND.
