Need I say more? Well I shall anyway... The stutue in bronze, by David Watson Stevenson, was erected in 1898 by the Leith Burns Club. He was recently cleaned up courtesy of Flash, as in the cleaning liquid brand... They sponsored a series of grants to local authorities who wanted to clean up notable statues in their areas... The local rag decided that by removing the green hue that he had acquired over the years (i.e. deterioration), the City Council was deliberately removing his 'long-standing affiliation' to a certain Edinburgh football team that happens to play in green. And they wonder why local newspapers are in decline?! |
