Description
English: The inner East Gopuram of Big Temple Thanjavur leads to a vast courtyard where the main temple and the great tower( 216 feet high) are situated and the Deity resides inside it in the form of Shiva lingam(Brihadeswerer or Peruvudayar in Tamil). A person entering the temple complex through the 'Rajarajan Thiruvayil' can see the view of imposing structure of the main Gopuram with its magnificent and exquisite sculptures. The temple complex had been built based an axial and symmetrical geometric rules.
