John F. Ransom was born in Virginia to GW Ransom and Elizabeth Ransom. He came to Columbus as a young child and later became a newspaper editor and musician. He was the first director of OSU's Glee Club in 1889 and served as Franklin County Deputy Auditor.; Columbus address: 452 E. Gay Street until 1899.;
