Description
"The old barracks" was an industrial building, built in 1852 in what is now Jægergårdsgade 116 for textile production and used in 1858-1862 as a sugar refinery, which gave it the nickname Sukkerhuset (The Sugar House). When 3. Artilleriafdeling moved to Aarhus in 1881 it used the building as its first barracks and held its eksercises in the area down to the coast, called Spanien. The funnel in the background belonged to the chocolate factory Elvirasminde on what is now Strandvejen/Oddervej.
