Summary[edit]

Description
English: Cave 3, Dambulla. The Buddha's eyes are half-open and his lips slightly parted, as if to symbolize his final moments on earth before he enters Nirvana. The "flame of wisdom" above his head is typical iconography in Thailand (Sukhothai and later) as well as Sri Lanka.
