Description
Crowds gather in Wolseley for war effort tours. 2 May,1916. During World War I, in 1915, Prime Minister Billy Hughes promised Britain an extra 50,000 reinforcements. The South Australia’n share was allocated to be 5,600 men. The State War Council and the South Australian Railways responded by dispatching recruiting trains twice to various parts of the state, first in March 1916 and then in April 1916. Premier Crawford Vaughan, the 7th South Australian Premier after Federation, personally addressed crowds on these tours.
