Summary

[edit]
Description
English: There are two cottages in La Jolla, California, Red Roost and Red Rest (only one is pictured), that have achieved landmark status and whose story I found interesting. Though they may look boring on the surface, their appearance belies their tumultuous history. Jack Heimburge purchased the cottages in 1967, intending to demolish them and build an apartment complex. However, just as he was about to get the process underway, the cottages were designated as landmarks in 1975. Heimburge could no longer demolish the cottages, so he boarded them up and they have remained that way ever since. Their future is the subject of much debate: should they be restored or torn down? Only time will tell. San Diego Historical Landmark #101
