Summary[edit]

Description
English: Artist' concept of red 'endless sunset' (some zoom-in) over warm deep lake in super-Earth Luyten b near its Terminator line. The planet was found at the inner edge of the habitable zone of red M3.5V Luyten's Star. This very quiet red dwarf has 0,29 M⊙ and 0,29 R⊙. Luyten's b is about 2,89 times more massive than the Earth and 1.51 times larger.

Luyten b orbits very close to its host red dwarf star. For 1 full revolution around Luyten's Star the planet takes about 18.65 days with an average distance of 0.091 AU. Our hot Mercury has a year of 88 days and an orbital radius of 0.387 AU. However, as the host star is being a dim red dwarf with only 0.88% luminosity of the Sun, Luyten b falls right within the system's habitable zone and only receives 6% more starlight than our planet, so this super-Earth it is most likely a warm living paradise. Luyten b has a moderate orbital eccentricity of 0.10 ± 0.08.

As the planet is being tidally locked with the host star, the same side of the super-Earth always faces the Luyten's Star. There would be an "eternal sunset" on the terminator line and the star would always appear on or close to the horizon. However it may some variability of the star altitude above the horizon due to orbital eccentricity.
