Català: (1) Inducció de l'estat viable però no cultivable (VBNC) per inanició i/o baixes temperatures i resuscitació per un augment de nutrients i/o temperatura. (2) Producció de la càpsula i el flagel. (3) Colonització de l’hoste, ja que els bacteris (mòbils o immòbils) se senten atrets per la sang/mucus dels seus hostes. A més, els bacteris poden ser absorbits per organismes filtradors i quan els humans els ingereixen, es poden infectar. (4) Septicèmia. Des de la ferida o la mucosa, el bacteri arriba al torrent sanguini i secreta toxines. (5) Alliberament del bacteri a l’aigua per part de l'animal aquàtic infectat (anguila en aquesta representació. (6) Formació de biofilms sobre superfícies i dispersió en forma de bacteris mòbils encapsulats
