March 6, 2020 Lake Charles, Louisiana Description: An oil spill removal organization’s (OSRO) spill response operating team (SROT) uses two boats to deploy spill containment boom from their primary response vessel during a training activity. When the booms are stretched out, they will form a “V-configuration”. Oil trapped inside the boom will be funneled to a skimming system (foreground of picture) as the bottom of the “V”. BSEE Preparedness Analysts from the Oil Spill Preparedness Division (OSPD) regularly inspect these types of equipment and tactics during training and exercise activities to ensure compliance with regulations and to monitor the overall vigor of the oil spill preparedness and response community.
