A river dam at the River Rhine the the city of Mainz (Germany)

DescriptionRheindeich (Heidesheim).jpg	Deutsch: Über viele Kilometer zieht sich auf der Südseite des Rheins von der Mainzer Gegend bis fast nach Bingen ein Deich am Fluss entlang. Er schützt die flache Landschaft vor Überschwemmungen. Häuser und vor allem Obstplantagen reichen oft bis fast unmittelbar an den Deich heran. Die Gegend zwischen dem Deich und dem Fluss wird häufig überflutet und ist vom Landschaftstyp her eine Aue. Man blickt in etwa nach Westen. Die Berge im Hintergrund befinden sich rechtsrheinisch, also auf der Nordseite des Flusses. Sie sind Teil des hessischen Taunusgebirges. Der nächste größere Ort in Fahrtrichtung war Ingelheim.
