| Description |
English: This is a 1965 reconstruction of the historic Ribera House, built during the First Spanish Period and owned by the time of a 1764 map by Juan de Rivera, who was of Tolomato descent, and manned the artillery at the Castillo de San Marcos until the city passed into the hands of the British. Following the city being given to the British, Rivera moved to Cuba, where he died in 1772. In 1777, the old Coquina stone house was demolished. By the 1960s, the Parks Hotel had operating on the site for quite some time, when it was purchased by the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board and demolished, with the house being reconstructed after archaeological investigation of the site. |
