| Description |
A vintage road grader that is pulled by a tractor. The operator stands or sits at the back and adjusts the blade with mechanical controls. It is used to smooth and shape gravel roads that were very common in rural areas until after WW II when many were surfaced which was a big improvement. I remember riding over what we called wash board roads that were very rough which is when a grader was called for. This road grader is part of a collection of old equipment that is part of the Bickford Collection named after a resident of Yarmouth who collected and restored many of these. I took this through a fence; I will go back when the snow is gone and the grass is green. There are many other interesting vehicles on display.In the foreground is the log that is chained to the Doodle Bug, a photo of which I posted a few days ago. |
