Summary[edit]

Description In November 1910, Count Leo Tolstoy, aged 82, died at a remote Russian railway station attempting to escape his aristocratic family life. At the time of his death, Rosamund Bartlett tells us he was the most famous man in Russia, more revered than the tsar. Russian scholar Bartlett explores his life more than his novels. This is an insightful book published in 2010, though not infrequently slow and ponderous.
