Douadic (Indre). L'étang de la Mer Rouge. Egalement appelé simplement "Mer Rouge", cet étang fait partie de la région naturelle de la Brenne. Avec 133ha, c'est le plus grand étang de la Brenne. Le nom exotique de l'étang de la Mer Rouge trouverait son origine dans les croisades. La tradition rapporte que le plus grand étang de la Brenne, l'étang du Bouchet, aurait changé de nom au 13e siècle. Aimery Sénébaud, seigneur du Bouchet-en-Brenne, compagnon de Saint-Louis, avait partagé la captivité du roi en Egypte, après la défaite des Croisés à la bataille de Fariskur (6 avril 1250). A son retour en Brenne, il donna à cet immence étang près de sa demeure, le nom de cette Mer Rouge qu'il avait connu en Orient. La légende a bien un fondement, Aimery Sénébaud ayant effectivement participé à la croisade en Egypte comme l'atteste une charte de 1249. Le nom peut aussi s'expliquer par les dimensions importantes de l'étang. Quant au qualificatif "rouge", il peut s'expliquer par la prolifération épisodique d'algues rouges, ou encore par la présence d'oxydes de fer (Un autre étang s'appelle l'étang Fond-rouge).
