English: Roy brings more than 30 years of passion and innovation to the music industry. Self-taught, he has a deep respect for all music genres. As a teenager, he won the 2nd Rock Festival of the Dominican Republic with his band Crudo. But his romance with Rock would be short-lived. The doors that opened for him professionally were as a vocalist and guitar player with the Puerto Rican band, Los Kenton, who recorded his first composition “Quiero hacerte el amor” which later became a Billboard hit performed by Tito Rojas.

Later, Roy joined Wilfrido Vargas Orchestra and toured Europe & Latin America. During those formative years when he performed his native merengue roots, he was also working on a groundbreaking production that would marry his love of rock with his native folklore. Roy’s first production, “Roy Tavaré y el Clan de la Furia” was a phenomenon in the DR. His next two albums continued to be very successful internationally and received much critical acclaim. He experimented with fusions that included Rock, R&B, Hip Hop and Dance with Merengue, Bachata, and Plena. However, Roy soon became a controversial figure in his home country due to his over the top style and lyrics that covered taboo material, he found himself restless and looking for more opportunity in the States.

In Sue Steward’s book, “Musica!: The Rhythm of Latin America - Salsa, Rumba, Merengue, and More” Steward refers to Roy as the inventor of sequencers and Merengue-House, paving the way to the meren-house movement. Roy’s ability to move between genres caught the attention of Emilio Estefan and he soon was working on much of Estefan’s top performers remixes creating sounds that would carry their music between formats. On Shakira’s 2nd international release, “Donde están los ladrones?” Roy was re-mixed her tracks providing additional airplay on stations and clubs where Shakira’s rock had limited airplay. Roy’s work crossed all genres from fostering duos on his production with Roselyn Sanchez featuring Tego Calderon and R&B artist Tyrese on salsa track “I wanna feel your rumba”. Additionally, Roy’s production work with Superstar Ricky Martin, “Pégate” showcased his Puerto Rican roots. This plena track soared the charts in the US & Latin America and garnered Roy an ASCAP recognition for his work as a composer. His hits topped all charts ranging from Tito Roja’s salsa, to Toño Rosario’s merengue to Alejandra Guzman’s rock to Alejandro Fernandez’s #1 Billboard Pop charter and most recently Mayra Veronica #1 Billboard Club Track.
