Description

A U.S. Navy Grumman S2F-1 Tracker from Anti-Submarine Squadron 21 (VS-21) "Lighting Bolts" lands aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CVS-47). VS-21 was assigned to the Philippine Sea for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 13 January to 15 July 1958. The destroyer USS Nicholas (DD-449) is visible on the left.

Note that Philippine Sea is still equipped with the Bofors 40 mm quadruple mounts.
