Español: Figura 1. Componentes neuronales del circuito entérico. Las neuronas sensoriales intrínsecas forman redes interconectadas que abarcan la circunferencia de la pared intestinal y proporcionan una extensa inervación del epitelio de la mucosa. Dentro del plexo mientérico (MP), las interneuronas forman cadenas a lo largo del intestino, con interneuronas ascendentes que se proyectan por vía oral y las interneuronas descendentes que se proyectan por vía anal. Las neuronas motoras excitadoras e inhibidoras mientéricas inervan el músculo circular (CM) y longitudinal (LM), mientras que las neuronas secretomotoras del plexo submucoso (SMP) se proyectan a la mucosa.
