SS 'Dimsdale' after Wonga Shoal collision
Description

The prow of the sailing ship the 'Dimsdale' after striking the Wonga Shoal lighthouse on 17 November 1912. The lighthouse, which was built in 1901, stood on a large sandbank in Semaphore. The light keepers Henry Franson and Charles McGowan were killed in the accident. Captain John Jones, the ship's master, pleaded not guilty to Franson's manslaughter and five investigations culminating in a Supreme Court trial, he was acquitted (Register, 14 March 1913, p8).
