Summary[edit]

Description
English: Misc. American CIA and British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) communication etc. equipment (head phones, telegraph keys, tape recorder reels, etc.) for use by NATO 'spies' and clandestine paramilitary stay-behind groups in Norway during the cold war, left behind at Torås fort, probably in the 1980s.
Photo taken in a military history museum at Torås Fort, a former coastal fortress and battery on the island of Tjøme, Norway. The fortress was established by the Norwegians in 1938, but completed by German military forces as part of the Festung Norwegen and Atlantic Wall during Nazi Germany's occupation of Norway in the Second World War. After the war the coastal artillery at Torås was part of the Norwegian Armed Forces and NATO. During the Cold War the facilities were used as an educational center for secret stay-behind agents partly funded by the CIA. In 1999, the fortress closed down. Today Torås is a recreational area with a private museum collection on display in one of the tunnels.
