Description
English: U.S. Navy sailors from the destroyer escort USS Levy (DE-162) on Mili Atoll, Marshall Islands, 22 August 1945. They are displaying their sign, which reads, “We always welcome Seabees and Marines”. Mili Atoll became the first Japanese territory in World War II to formally surrender to United States forces on 22 August 1945. Shown (left to right): SM2 Abe Klotzman; YN2 Irwin Schwartz; Coxswain Henry Jendrzejanski, and EM2 Kenneth Werton. All the sailors were U.S. Navy Reserve.
