Description
Deutsch: Soncor ist ein System von Seen und Vegetationsflächen im östlichen Sektor des Salar de Atacama, ca. 24 km von Toconao entfernt. Der 50 km² große Sektor Soncor ist Teil des Naturschutzreservates Reserva Nacional Los Flamencos.

Der Salar de Atacama hat eine Fläche von 3200 km² und befindet sich auf einer Höhe von 2300 m ü.d.M. Auf seiner Oberfläche sieht man Salzkrusten, hervorgerufen durch die konstante Bildung und Anhäufung von Kristallen, welche sich im unterirdischen, stark salzhaltigen Wasser aus den nahegelegenen Anden durch Verdampfung bilden.

Besonders im östlichen Teil des meist durch unterirdirsche natürliche Kanäle verbundenen Soncor-Seensystems kann man verschiedene Vogelarten, darunter die Andemöwe und den Andenflamingo beobachten.
