| Description | Cover of the book Sam 'n' Henry which was published by Shrewsbury Publishing for the Chicago Tribune. The newspaper owned (and still owns) radio station WGN. en:Sam 'n' Henry was a radio program heard on en:WGN (AM) in the 1920s created by en:Freeman Gosden and en:Charles Correll. The comedy duo wanted the rights to syndicate this radio show, but WGN refused to allow it. Gosden and Correll re-worked some aspects of their show and characters, because WGN owned the rights to the name Sam 'n' Henry, Gosden and Correll re-named their characters en:Amos 'n' Andy and signed with radio station en:WMAQ (AM), where they were allowed syndication rights. |

A search for renewals for books was done for the years 1953 and 1954. There were no listings for the Chicago Tribune. Further, a check for renewals for the same years was done in periodicals. Again, nothing was located for the Chicago Tribune, so the company didn't renew their newspapers from this timeframe either. There's no evidence that copyright continues to be claimed on this material. |
