Sandspit is about 1 hour north of Auckland on New Zealand's North Island

Description
English: Sandspit is a small settlement close to the town of Warkworth. The ferry to Kawau Island leaves from the wharf at the end of the spit. There is an 'old style' camp ground with some historic old buildings. Bush walks over the headland (climb up the hill at the back of the campground) lead to Brick Bay. At low tide, the bay can be reached by walking over the rocks (start on the beach in front of the campground). Try kayaking or paddle boarding up the Matakana River to the charming small village of Matakana - best done about an hour before high tide and well worth the effort.
